How to Measure for a Bespoke Metal Gate

What you'll need: A measuring tape, pen or pencil and paper to note down your measurements. 

1. Firstly, measure the gap width - this should be the entire width from post to post or wall to wall for where you'd like your new gate to be fitted. This measurement isn't for how wide you would like the gate to be, but for your gap width, this ensures that hinges and latches are taken into consideration.
   GardenSite Tip: Measure the gap width at the top, middle and bottom of your wall or post and use the shortest width if measurements differ to ensure a straight fit.
2. If you plan on purchasing matching metal posts with your gate, please consider the additional post thickness in your gap width.
3. Measure your height requirement - Usually, this is measured a few inches above the ground (not from ground level) so that your new gate can swing freely without touching the floor. The top height can then be as tall as you require.
   GardenSite Tip: The taller the gate, the taller the posts/wall you'll need in order to hold the gate securely in place.
