Julie Thompson Asked:
We have just bought this set and are looking forward to building it soon, we had planned to stain it with a Ronseal decking stain before building but have been told by a number of people that we should wait anywhere between 1 week to 6 months before staining to allow the wood to breathe. Can you advise if we would be ok to stain before building?
We Replied:
Dear Julie
Thank you for your question.
I cannot see a reason why you need to allow the wood to settle before staining, you often see timber being immediately treated especially on well known gardening programmes. If you are staining for cosmetic reasons, you can treat all the timber before its fitted together, although staining is not essential as the timber is pressure treated.

Do you offer an installation service for the decking and pergola?
We Replied:
Dear Paul
Thank you for your question.
I'm sorry but we don't offer this service. I suggest contacting a local DIY / handyperson for a quote. Installation instructions are on the page. I would estimate the build would take approx 8hrs.

Angela Miller Asked:
Does the decking and pergola have to be placed on a flat even surface or would it be ok on a lawn?
We Replied:
Dear Angela
Thank you for your question.
This product could be placed straight onto a lawn as long as it is level and not prone to getting waterlogged during bad weather. If the ground is slightly soft then over time (a few years) the decking could sink slightly due to the weight of the structure.
This could be averted by creating a slabbed base area on the ground first, which would also help to prolong the life of the wood (even though it's pressure treated with a 15 year guarantee) as the wooden base wouldn't be in direct contact with wet ground and so would reduce the risk of rotting over a longer period.
I hope that this information helps.

Laura Nash Asked:
Could a fire pit table be placed on the decking or would it need some form of base?
We Replied:
Dear Laura
Thank you for your question.
For health and safety reasons we would not recommend putting a fire pit table on decking. We would place the firepit on gravel, slabs or stone patio.

John Hickling Asked:
Would this pergola support the weight of a lazy spa?
We Replied:
Dear John
Thank you for your question.
Unfortunately, the pergola has not been tested for a maximum weight allowance by the manufacturer so we cannot say for certain. However, the bearers are quite close together at 45cm intervals vertically (which is a good thing as it will help to spread the weight), but you may wish to add some extra wooden bearers horizontally to the section where the spa is due to be placed for added support.
