Red Squirrel Nesting Box

Retreating under pressure from its larger imported American grey cousin, our native Red Squirrel has a hard time competing for territory and food in woodland habitats that are also declining.

So any help will be gratefully received by this endearing rodent with cute tufted ears, and this deep Red Squirrel Nesting Box has been designed to ensure the safety and comfort of its occupants which in many parts of the country may include grey squirrels.

There's a ledge to perch on and two access points in the front and side with a ladder that enables young to climb the sides. A front panel can be removed for cleaning the sturdy box which is handmade from slow dried FSC timber without chemical preservatives.

Siting: The back plate mount should be used to place the box on a mature tree approximately 3-4m high. We'd recommend placing the box away from direct sunlight and prevailing winds.

Please note: Breeding red squirrels are protected under the Wildlife & Countryside Act, so an occupied nest box may only be inspected by a licensed worker.
