Why Choose Wood?
There’s no question about it, timber greenhouses are a lot more traditional than those made from modern materials, such as our aluminium framed greenhouses. From the smell of the wood to the overall look, these Victorian-styled structures offer gardeners a fantastic place to pot, seed and grow, crafted from natural materials that are much more appealing to look at within a garden setting.
The obvious downside to choosing timber over metal is that if not well maintained, the wood could be prone to rot over time. A yearly or even bi-annually treatment with a wood preservative may be required depending on the type of wood used. Cheap wooden greenhouses aren’t always the best option, especially if they’re only crafted from generic softwood, as the wood isn’t as dense as other wood species, especially versus hardwoods.
This is where our Swallow greenhouse range shines, they’re made of solid Scandinavian timber, which has been heat-treated to prevent warping and rotting by removing almost all of the natural moisture.
Brands vs Pricing
With around 70 wooden greenhouses for sale, we offer several major brands including Swallow and Gabriel Ash. Both offer exquisite value for money, exceptionally crafted products and lots of customisation options in order to make your new greenhouse your own.
Gabriel Ash greenhouses are the only brand to be endorsed by the RHS, that alone should give you confidence. Swallow greenhouses are all sold with delivery and installation included in the price, making them an attractive cost-effective purchase.

What Kind of Base Do I Need?
We would recommend one of the following methods to prepare a base:
Concrete - Prepare the area where you plan to have your greenhouse installed, creating a space at least the dimensions of your chosen greenhouse's base dimensions and flood with concrete to around 10cm thick.
Paving Slabs or Patio Bricks - Use paving slabs or patio bricks to create a stable flooring area at least the minimum dimensions of your chosen greenhouse's base. The slabs should be at least 5cm thick for optimal durability.
Perimeter - Using the same method as Paving Slabs (above) but only create a perimeter for where your greenhouse's frame will be touching the ground, rather than creating a full solid area.
Can I Paint, Stain or Treat My Wooden Greenhouse?
Our wooden greenhouses are supplied with either pressure-treated or heat-treated timber, offering a long lifespan and a minimum guarantee that the wood will not rot or decay if left untreated. However, a greenhouse can be painted or stained in order to match your garden design and to extend its lifespan.
