The ballast unit may of developed a fault. Bear in mind that if you are trying to test the bulb outside of the main unit it will not light up due to a safety device and the unit needs to be fully assembled to test.

A new bulb should be emitting UV light if it lights up and will last around 6-9 months. It is very rare a UV is faulty.

Once the unit is put back together there is a viewing window on the back of the unit that should glow blue at night if it is working.
As this product has been discontinued for over 10 years manuals are no longer available from the Oase website.

Do I need to change a filter on a Bitron 15 pond filter system or carry out any regular maintenance? I use the system at least 3-4 times each week for a few hours each time and it seems to work OK in my pond. The fish don't seem to be complaining anyway although I do get a build up of green slime and surface algae from time to time which needs to be cleared.

If a UV system has a backlog of algae to eradicate it can take a good couple of weeks to clear. However, if you wait until dark the hose tails on the unit should glow blue if the bulb is on.
