How to Measure for a Bespoke Metal Fence

What you'll need: A measuring tape, pen or pencil and paper to note down your measurements. 

1. Firstly, measure the gap width - this should be the entire width from post to post or wall to wall for where you'd like your new fence to be fitted. This measurement isn't for how wide you would like the fence to be, but for your gap width, this ensures that fixings and fittings are taken into consideration.
   GardenSite Tip: If measuring between existing posts or walls, measure the gap width at the top, middle and bottom of your wall or post and use the shortest width if measurements differ to ensure a straight fit.
2. If you plan on purchasing matching metal posts with your fencing, please consider the additional post thickness in your gap width.
3. Measure your height requirement - Usually, this is measured a couple of inches above the ground (not from ground level) so that the fence rail isn't directly on the floor. The top height can then be as tall as you require.
   GardenSite Tip: The taller the fence, the taller the posts/wall you'll need in order to hold the railings securely in place.
