Questions and Answers (1)
Richard Harris Asked:

I have a very large (3.6 metre x 3.6 metre x average 1 metre deep) pond originally built by a previous owner for koi carp. It has a three chamber compartment built alongside that appears to have been designed for a homemade filter system. My wife would like to have koi carp once I've finished re-furbishing the pond (currently empty) and while I am OK with this I am a bit uncertain just what filter / pump and other kit I may need to keep the water to the right quality. I'm also put off by the very large cost of some of the specialised 'koi' filters I've seen. Please can you advise me if the Lotus 48000 would do the job and explain how often I would need to clean the filter and how this is done? Also do I need to keep the filter / pump running 24/7 or can it be stopped overnight? I think I may be able to house the Lotus or something similar in the existing chamber out of sight. There is a return pipe system that cascades water back to the pond.

We Replied:

Dear Richard Thank you for your question. This kit will be adequate for the pond as the pond capacity is around 12,000 litres. As a rule we say take the volume of the pond and double it for goldfish and double it again for koi reaching 48000 for your pool. This can not be turned off overnight and should be kept running 24/7, in regards to cleaning we would suggest this is done every two months by removing the lid after ensuring the filter is switched off and then proceed to clean the foams in a bucket of pond water. As stated on the product page you may also require some pipe. Should you wish to contact us further or to place an order, please call us on 0121 355 7701. Thank you for using our online Q&A system. Kind regards Dan Everton
