Power Sheds Share Their Success Story With David Coton
David Coton, partner at GardenSite LLP recently visited the Power Sheds HQ to discover their future plans in the garden buildings market, and what makes them as a brand different from their competitors in an ever expanding marketplace.
David was shown round by Jack Sutcliffe
and Simon Hobson who founded Power Sheds only three years ago with the
ambition to offer products that emphasize attention to detail,
quality and durability, characteristics that consumers, particularly
online, often find difficult to discern.
Power Sheds made it clear from the start
they wanted to revolutionize how sheds are designed and the
environment in which they are manufactured. David was immediately
aware that innovation was high on the company's agenda with
Power Sheds modular garden buildings adding cutting edge design to
the simplicity of a traditional shed.
A major part of their
success is that the majority of their structures are highly adaptable with doors and windows, able to be fitted at multiple positions during assembly. Their proud boast is
that 'no other shed gives you the same amount of options'.
Every feature is top class with thick
cladding, heavy duty double strength frames, tongue & groove
timber floor not OSB, toughened safety glass instead of acrylic
glazing, galvanized rust free ironmongery, and high performance
roofing felt with a polyester backing that resists tearing. Wood
treatment is also second to none, it's water based with added wax and
can be painted if required.
It's clear that, underpinning all their
success, there is a commitment to high quality components and, in
line with their responsibility and sustainability policy, all the
timber used by the company can be traced from managed forests to
sawmill, and you can read in our recent blog that they banned themselves from using Russian-sourced wood, turning to alternate timber suppliers in an effort to boycott the recent situation in Ukraine.
All manufacturing takes place in a well
equipped new facility in Bradford, around which David was shown and
was suitably impressed with what he saw. It was clear that Power Sheds
has invested heavily in automation and machinery, it's an environment
in which staff training and development is incredibly important, and
where equality and diversity have helped solve skills shortages.
David saw the new state of the art shed
treatment machine so that dipping timber, which was previously done
by hand, is now fully automated. With the resultant increase in
productivity, staff can concentrate on maintaining and increasing
build quality and, without the need for a rather unpleasant manual
treatment process, there is a much happier workforce.
Though only a young company, their
awards cabinet is rapidly filling up. The 'SME National Business
Awards Gold Winner', 'Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Award',
'Build Design & Build Award', 'Retail, Leisure and Hospitality
Award for Customer Service' make this 'Start Up Of The Year', who
build the UK's most awarded garden shed, one of 'Yorkshire's Most
Exciting Companies'.

With so much success already and
undoubted growth potential, Power Sheds has attracted the attention of
several investors and exciting times are definitely in prospect due
to their partnership agreement with Binderholz and the BSW group,
Europe's largest saw millers, with the aim of accelerated growth and
global market expansion.
Their support and investment will mean
supply chain security, continued growth of the brand, greater product
diversity, and machinery and systems investment leading to increased
capacity, quality and reliability.
Already you can see how the product
range is developing with the introduction of a new great quality shed
which will retail at a very affordable price. At the end of David's
visit, Jack and Simon assured him that, along with their commitment
to quality, one element of the Power offering that isn't and won't be
open to change is the 10 year guarantee on every shed they sell.
