You will probably buy more cars in your lifetime, and possibly more houses in your lifetime, than you will buy greenhouses. A greenhouse might not cost you as much as a car or a house but it is still a significant outlay so getting value for money first time is essential. It is unlikely you will buy lots of greenhouses so getting it right the first time is the name of the game.

Why Buy an Aluminium Greenhouse?

Most domestic greenhouses are aluminium framed, and with good reason. Aluminium is more than strong enough and relatively lightweight and requires little or no aftercare, unlike wooden greenhouses. If I were making my first greenhouse purchase I would go down the aluminium route.

Like most consumer products, greenhouses can be made to a price, or manufactured to a standard and this needs to be understood in the greenhouse market as in any other market. You can easily pay 2 to 3 times more for a highly specified greenhouse than one made to a price, and it’s not always apparent why. When you are looking at all those small images online, or even in a brochure, the thickness, depth and width of any single aluminium extrusion is not blatantly obvious as most of us only see the glass and the overall structure.

Buy the Strongest Greenhouse Made in Britain

You want your greenhouse to be strong so it will not only withstand the test of time but also the rigours of the British weather with exposure to strong winds being a major concern for any greenhouse owner in our ever changing climate. A strong aluminium frame is absolutely key to getting this right.

Being ‘made in Britain’ doesn’t automatically mean it is better than an imported product, but buying British does support local companies and those that work there. After sales service, installation advice and being able to customise a greenhouse are also added benefits to buying British if you choose the right brand.

Why I Would Buy an Elite Titan Greenhouse

And I would choose an Elite Greenhouse and from their range and I would buy from their Titan range. The strength of the Titan is derived from the thickness of the glazing bars, adding in heavier duty angles, additional bracing and thicker glass. And all other aluminium extrusions are also on steroids as well.

As Elite extrude their own aluminium they are able to produce a ridge bar up 20ft long so any greenhouse up to this size will get a single piece ridge bar that has no need for an internal frame to support that length. Not only does that demonstrate the strength of the ridge bar but it also makes for much cleaner lines inside the greenhouse.

Freestanding Elite Titan greenhouses are available in a variety of widths including 6ft, 7ft, 8ft, 10ft and even 12ft widths so there is all the choice you would practically need. And Titan greenhouses come with a massive range of options, too numerous to mention in this article without creating a long list that could easily confuse.

To understand all these options better, digest the contents of this example page which has all the necessary photos and graphics.

Elite Greenhouses also offer an 8ft wide lean-to version of the Titan greenhouse, known as the K800, that has all the strength qualities of the popular freestanding versions but also allows a degree of freedom when deciding where you want to place the double sliding doors, and that can be a game changer on its own. For a good example of the Titan K800 lean-to take a look at this Elite Titan K800 8ft x 18ft product page here.

And just to create even more choice the stylish and contemporary freestanding lean-to Edge Greenhouse, with its massive height is available in 4ft,  6ft and, 8ft widths and all are built with the Titan ridge bar. For more information on the contemporary Edge greenhouse read our review here.

And finally there is the striking Zenith freestanding greenhouse available with a fantastically impressive ridge height. The Zenith range is also built with the Titan ridge bar and is available in a range of sizes all 8ft wide. See just what you think of the Elite Zenith range here.

Choose Your Colour for your Elite Titan Greenhouse

I also love the range of contemporary colours that can be chosen in the Titan range. As well as the standard silver there are an additional 10 colours available and I think Olive would be my choice as it creates a great harmony with the natural colours of the garden. Having said that when we had a Titan K800 Lean To on display several years ago we chose White…..and that looked stunning too.

It is also available in the full range of colours so can be coded to match your greenhouse.
