Description

Louvre windows allow the cooler air during the summer months to enter the greenhouse at the lowest possible point. This in turn pushes the warmer air out of the open roof vent.

This cycling of the air is essential in the warmer months as stagnant air can quickly cause fungal rot where the humidity is high.

Opening the greenhouse door is not as effective, as it allows a wall of air in rather than a stream, so the circulation is not as effective. Leaving the door open also means that your greenhouse and its contents are at risk from the neighbours' domestic pets, urban foxes and other garden animals.

How to Fit a Louvre Window

As suggested a louvre window should be fitted near the base of the greenhouse rather than higher up. It will fit between the upright glazing bars and will replace a piece of glass. Detailed fitting instructions are supplied. With horticultural glass, you would simply replace a panel of glass with a louvre panel. With long pane toughened glass you would normally be supplied with one additional panel cut short to accommodate a louvre if required. Fitting a second louvre may involve buying an additional panel of glass. This particular photograph of a louvre is 18ins x 24ins fitted with toughened glass in the blades. It is used as a guide photo only.

surprisingly flimsy for the price but does the job

Instructions looked and read fine but I thought it would replace a 2' square pane of glass in the end of my greenhouse but it didn't. Fortunately I had spare glass and could cut a larger piece to fit above it. the instructions to nip together the holding blades before pushing in the glass slats are an understatement - my first piece slipped straight through on to the shingle outside but fortunately did not break. I was going to send it all back but my son-in-law really squeezed them together so that the glass needed pushing to fit in place and that seems to have worked. The lip that holds the bottom edge of the glass would be more reassuring if it were a fraction longer.

Very good product

The louvre was fairly easy to install even though my greenhouse is from Wickes and an unknown make, to me that is, and while it seems a bit flimsy it works absolutely fine. Just need an actuator now.

Retrofitting 24" Louvres unit to Robinsons greenhouse.

Excellent unit, required a small modification to top and bottom frames assembly to allow installation to my older Robinsons frame due to the sections of the original greenhouse being larger. Fitted well after this and works a treat with the automatic vent control. Very pleased since matching six blade units as originally fitted are not easily sourced. Great even ventilation now along with the previous three installed louvres.
