Are metal sheds good for storing garden tools?

Are metal sheds secure?

Are metal sheds waterproof?

Any shed can offer protection from the rain, providing a cost effective storage solution. Most metal sheds as standard will help to protect items stored inside from the majority of weather conditions, although, they won't normally be classed as being 100% waterproof, and it can be heavily dependent on where and how the shed is installed. For maximum weather protection of your new shed you can complete a few extra steps after installation such as using shelving and racks to keep items up off the floor, and by sealing the edges of the shed base to the ground with an outdoor weatherproof sealant, similar to what's used around bath tubs and sinks - this helps limit the amount of rain ingress.

How easy is it to install a metal shed?

Most metal sheds are described as quick and easy to assemble. Complexity varies by model and size, so check the specific product’s assembly notes and included instructions before purchase. In general, it can take two people 4-6 hours to install a standard size shed.

Do metal sheds come with a floor?

The majority of metal sheds do not come complete with an integral floor, and are designed to be installed straight on top of a concrete plinth, paving bricks or slabbed base, which then acts as the floor for the shed. Always check the individual product page to confirm if a floor is included or not, or potentially available to be added to your order as an optional accessory.

What is the difference between an apex and a pent roof on a metal shed?

An apex roof has two sloping sides that meet at a central ridge, giving a peaked profile and the most internal height in the centre; water runs off both sides and the look is traditional and cottage-style. A pent roof is a single sloping plane from back to front, offering greater usable height at the rear, a lower overall profile and a cleaner, more modern appearance, with runoff going to one side. Choose an apex if you want maximum central headroom and a classic look, especially for a freestanding shed, or choose a pent if you need a compact, contemporary design or plan to site the shed against a wall or fence where the single slope is more practical.

Do metal sheds rust?

How do you prevent condensation inside a metal shed?

Ensure that the base is of the correct size i.e. only slightly larger than the shed base rail but large enough for you to drill into it without cracking away at the edges. The base should be ideally higher than the surrounding land area, and should contain a DPC layer within its construction (PVC plastic sheet).  Edges of the base should be troweled smooth and slightly angled down towards the edge so that water seepage does not occur, and then seal the inside of the base rail with a suitable waterproofing mastic.

Are metal sheds better than timber sheds?

Metal sheds are robust and low maintenance, unlike timber sheds don't require painting or treating in years to come. This alone normally makes them a more popular choice than timber sheds. Some customers prefer the more modern look of a metal shed, whilst other prefer a timber shed for that natural wood look - so personal taste and preference can change what's better.

What are the standard sizes for metal sheds?

There is no set standard size for a metal shed, and normally you would buy one based on the size available in your garden to fit one, or if you already have a base area prepared then that'll be the size that you need. Do I need to paint or treat a metal shed?

No, the major feature of a metal shed is that it's classed as being low maintenance, whereby it does not need to be painted or treated with a yearly preservative. They are generally supplied with a protective galvanised finish and hot-dipped paint coating, making them virtually maintenance free, so yearly treatment is not usually required.
