Fabulous in more ways than one, Tolkein's Dragons were originally bred by Morgoth to be cunning and strong, breathing not only fire but sometimes ice and snow.
This depiction of a dragon migrating to Middle Earth is appropriately dramatic, with billowing wings stretching from a thin twisting body that has a lengthy and dangerously serrated tail.
The statue or installation, crafted from galvanised steel, recreates all the theatrical movement that we would expect from such a formidable mythical dragon with its square shaped head spitting out a thin rasping tongue.
Swinging around menacingly at the merest touch, this is a notable piece of sculpture designed by Ian Gill, it will have a startling impact on even the most prosaic landscape.
