Stong and sturdy bench

We have bought two of these benches - one for either side of the front door. They are heavy, strong and sturdy. Assembly was straight forward - although the instructions referred to "dowels" which did not exist. One of the benches had slight transit damage on the top of the seat. I reported this damage and a new top was sent out immediately and shrink wrapped for protection, by courier. So, overall, a very good treated natural wood bench, and very good customer service.

Poor Quality and Difficult Assembly

When assembling I noticed several splits, mainly underneath owing to pilot holes not being drilled (contrary to the instructions!). There is also a split on the top seat. The assembly was a nightmare. When attaching the legs to the seat, it was not possible to use the electric driver as the driver chuck impinged on the legs. Therefore it had to be assembled by hand. The pilot hole drilled for the 100mm screws were too small and it took forever to screw them in. I now have blisters in my palm. When installing the cross brace, it was not possible to fix it as shown on the instructions as the drill and screwdriver would not fit and clashed with the seat. I installed the brace underneath the support. I would also like to know if any oiling or waxing is required to keep the bench in good condition,

In regards to oiling, the product arrives already pressure treated and should not need any maintenance for the first 1-2 years (dependable on its location eg situated in a sheltered/unsheltered area). Thereafter, a stain, paint or treatment solution can be used to ensure its durability and weather resistance. Any of these solutions will be fine as long as the solution is suitable for outdoor timber and would depend on your personal preference. Some customers like to keep the natural wood like for the first year or so, and then stain or paint the bench when sprucing up their garden a few years later, but this is totally up to you and your garden's style. Sturdy bench

Wanted a simple sturdy bench to enjoy the view from our garden. This fitted the bill perfectly. Service from Robert Hall fantastic and very helpful, delivery just as good , prompt and on time very helpful driver. Would recommend bench and company .

Good looking bench but problem with assembly

Delivery was prompt and notified by the driver in advance. The bench was flat packed which I did not expect. Assembly was not straight forward as the dowls in the legs did not line up with the holes in the seat. It was necessary to drill out the holes to make it all fit together. The finish was rougher than the photo on the website but as expected for a sleeper style bench. Would have given five stars for value if it had fitted together better!
