Fred Asked:

My Aquamax 5500 is a few years old now and seems to be OK but isn't moving the volume of water it used to. Is a replacement Rotor/Impeller likely to cure this?

We Replied:

Dear Fred Thank you for your question. We would suggest removing the impeller and checking for faults on the shaft and the blade. If the white fan head is worn or there are grooves in the shaft, it will need replacing. If it is not worn then the motor is at fault and will need replacing ether under warranty if applicable or by buying a new motor. Leonard Newcombe Asked:

Should the impeller be snug within the housing?

We Replied:

Dear Leonard Thank you for your question. There should be a gap of around 2-4mm around the impeller and the housing, If the rotor is turning when the motor is on, it could be a case that the motor has developed dead spots within its brushes. The only real way to tell if an impeller is faulty is if the impeller is pitted or grooved on the metallic shaft that could cause intermittent faults with the pump. David Livesey Asked:

Where do you get the tool to remove the four securing screws holding casing so the impeller can be checked?

We Replied:

Dear David Livesey Thank you for your question. You require a torx screwdriver set to gain access into the impeller casing. These are readily available at DIY stores and online.
